Definition
BOFU content (bottom of funnel) is content created for people who are ready to make a purchase decision. Instead of teaching broad concepts or building awareness, BOFU content directly addresses buying objections, compares specific solutions, and pushes prospects toward becoming customers. This includes comparison pages, product demos, pricing guides, customer testimonials, free trials, and consultation booking pages.
Why it matters
BOFU content converts at 3-5x higher rates than top-of-funnel educational content because you're speaking to people with credit cards in hand. A freelance web designer in Seattle might get 1,000 visitors monthly to their "what is UX design" blog post but zero clients. Meanwhile, their "Squarespace vs Custom WordPress: Which is Right for Your Restaurant?" comparison post gets 50 visitors but generates 3 consultation bookings worth $12,000 in projects. BOFU content takes less time to create (you're answering specific buying questions, not teaching entire concepts) and delivers immediate revenue impact. For solo creators and small teams, one strong BOFU piece can outperform ten awareness articles.
Example
A business coach was creating weekly Instagram carousels about "mindset tips" and "productivity hacks" that got decent engagement but zero client inquiries. She had 40 posts with no bookings in three months.
She pivoted to BOFU content: a simple email sequence offering a "free 20-minute strategy call to see if coaching is right for you," a YouTube video titled "How much does business coaching actually cost? (Honest breakdown)," and a blog post comparing "DIY courses vs 1-on-1 coaching vs group programs." Each piece included a Calendly link. Within six weeks, she booked 8 discovery calls from 120 total views across those three pieces, converting 3 into $4,500 clients. Her conversion rate jumped from 0% to 2.5% because she stopped educating strangers and started closing warm prospects.
How to apply
- List the three questions prospects ask right before hiring you or buying—create one BOFU piece answering each
- Record a 5-minute video showing your product/service in action with a "book a demo" link in the description
- Write a comparison post: "Option A vs Option B vs [Your Solution]" with honest pros/cons
- Create a pricing guide email that addresses cost objections and links to your calendar or checkout
- Turn your best client result into a one-page case study with before/after numbers and a CTA
- Pin your BOFU content in your bio, newsletter, and podcast description—not your awareness content
